After a spring climbing trip with a friend, we realized first-hand how outdated the solutions for adventurers in Poison Oak and Ivy territory were. As avid trail runners and mountain bikers on the central coast of California, we have regular interaction with Poison Oak whenever we venture to the trails. We felt it was time for a more modern approach to the prevention and relief of the nasty rash you get from encounters with Poison Oak and Ivy.
Outcomes:
We formulated and manufactured 3 solutions in the Poison Oak and Ivy space. We created a biodegradable wash with activated charcoal, individual removal wipes that allow quick removal of the oils while on the trail, and a relief scrub that works incredibly. Our solutions were picked up by REI, and are currently sold nationally. Our invention of our individual Removal Wipes has created a new category of products in the market, now seeing imitations manufactured by our competitors.
After being in the market for roughly 5 years, our research is pointing us to double down on wipes. All new manufacturing will be utilizing bamboo wipes, encouraging a more sustainable wipe material. We will be launching a cleansing Body Wipe in the summer of 2024, and ideally Poison Oak and Ivy wipes for dogs (one of the biggest contributors to the spread of the oils) in the fall. We also plan on launching mosquito repellant wipes in 2025, ideally propelling Wildland to being the leader in the skincare protection space in the outdoor industry.
